How The System Goes

Wrote this in 9th grade

We shouldn’t need a good grade to prove our usefulness

We shouldn’t need to waste our youthfulness

It’s how the system goes

Or barely getting paid by bosses, ruthless

Money doesn’t make you but it can break you

It’s how the system goes

America is a fire hydrant on fire

We could stop it, but we let the flames grow higher

It’s how the system goes

When will people realize

That with love hate can be neutralized

But it’s the refusal to learn as we continue to burn

It’s how the system goes

United we stood, divided we fell

In our schools where corpses still smell

It’s how the system goes

There’s no help for mental health, but it’s the first pawn

To move in the gun game of wealth when the TV turns on

It’s how the system goes

Guilty until proven innocent

As unarmed men lay on pavement

It’s how the system goes

If you’re white you’re alright, anything else, shot on sight
